Clean It Up!
Did you use to throw everything in your desk as a kid?
Remember when you were in grade school and you had those desks with the little cubbies and you could just threw everything in them? There were a few pupils who kept their desks super tidy and everything was color coordinated, but then there were the majority of us who just threw everything inside the cubby so we could hurry off to recess. But once we returned from recess and our teacher asked us to get out our homework, we started to panic. The place we thought our homework was, is no longer there and the panic began to sink in.
“Where is it? I know I did it. Maybe it’s in another folder. Nope not there, okay maybe it’s in my book. Nope not there either”. Next thing we knew we had taken out everything from inside our desk and finally found our homework crinkled up in the back. Once the stress passed of thinking we had lost your homework, we would shove everything right back in. There was never enough time to put things where they belonged.
Although we were only 10 years old then, having a messy desk is still a problem many of us are faced with. It effects our productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness. Here are 3 of the main reasons you should keep your desk clean
3 Reasons To Keep Your Desk Clean
To give a good first impression. First impressions are everything! Can you imagine going into an interview and seeing that the hiring manager’s desk is just cluttered with papers, books, pens, and everything in between? You would most certainly be surprised and wonder what has happened. You never know who might walk by or stop by for the first time.
To improve your overall health and hygiene. When was the last time you wiped your desk off with a Clorox wipe? It’s probably been awhile or maybe never. Desks are known for picking up many germs and bacteria during the week. Giving your desk a good wipe down every Friday can be very beneficial. So, between people eating at their desk (which is a whole other topic) and the amount of time you spend at your desk, a lot of bacteria and germs have built up.
To reduce stress. Although some people believe they operate well in complete chaos, majority of us need a little structure. It’s time to get rid of all that clutter and start to help it find its own place. You’ll become more EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT. This will give you more time to play around on Facebook or whatever it is you do during work.
Get Work Done
Being organized is a crucial part of being successful and getting work done. If you’re determined to be successful at your work, then you want to put yourself in a position for success which starts with having a clean space and a place for everything. It’s okay to have a few things out on your desk.
We get that our days can get busy which is why we want to help. Here is a helpful challenge for you to keep things clutter free. At the end of work every Friday, spend 5 minutes cleaning off your desk. Put things back where they belong and give it a good wipe down. When you get back to work on Monday you’ll feel fresh and ready to attack the work week with a clean space.
